finals

Ok... I have gone back and re-read my last post, and I am pretty sure it didn't make any sense. Hopefully the paper I was writing came through a little more clearly... Well, I am not crazy, and finals are upon us. I have knocked out 3 and have 4 more to go! I am hoping to get two more taken today. It is starting to feel good though, starting to feel like the holidays are within reach! We are both doing well, I am feeling great. I just thought I would give a reassuring update for anyone who read that last most and might have been afraid I was losing my mind. It is back, and things are great!! We are looking forward to our vacation and can't wait to see everyone in Washington!

Heaven help me...

This is my cry for help... and to take a break from this blasted research paper. There is one week left in the semester... and there is ZERO motivation left in my brain. One more week... sounds so simple... but it is one more week that involves one more research paper, and 5 more final exams. I took two today... what a relief. Charles is sitting next to me doing his homework. I have finished 3 of 6 pages of research and now I have hit a wall. I hit this wall every night around... nine o'clock. And I think it is making me lose my mind. I think this blog is evidence of that. I hope I don't go crazy before I graduate in April. Why am I not normal? Anything for a degree right?
And... it is seriously WAY too cold for normal life to proceed. If I don't go crazy, I might just turn into some kind of snow woman.
Sorry for blabbing, but believe it or not, this helped me get a few more minutes of will power out of myself for this research.

I think I can...

Middle children

I am just studying for a final in my Marriage class and found a funny poem about "Middle Children." The chapter is about how birth order effects certain personality traits in marriage, and I thought this was pretty cute:

Middle children are used to giving in to the younger and the older.
Middle children are used to turning soft, mild cheeks to the child who's older.
Middle children make cheer their talent, smiling even through the hand-me-down downings.
Middle children will play a willing audience for the other's clownings.
Middle children are open-hearted.
Middle children will fetch and carry.
Middle children don't need unspoiling.
Middle children are nice to marry.

I never realized how fantastic I was at being a middle born... Charles is one lucky man!! :)

Baby Himmer

Isn't our baby so cute??? :) I went to the doctor for the first time yesterday and here is what all the fuss is about. If you look closely, you can see that he marked something. You can't really see much of what he marked... but thats the baby alright! Pretty exciting!! I just had to put that up for everyone to see!!

Slacker...

If y'all had any idea how ridiculously busy we have been lately... well, you might not think I'm such a slacker for not blogging in about a month. It has been crazy, but fun!! We went to Texas for Thanksgiving and LOVED the time we had there. We stayed plenty busy with everything with the family going on. I discovered that really the only time I get too sick with this pregnancy, is when we travel. Both flights were doozies! I have to say though... if I go my whole pregnancy without throwing up any time other then when I fly... I say I am pretty darn lucky!!
We had a blast with everyone! I didn't take many pictures though... I don't know what I was thinking! The only time I thought to take out my camera was at the mall with Annie and Chloe. I wish I would have gotten some of Logan too because he is getting so big and is so cute!
Well, for some reason, I can't get any pictures to load up. I'll have to get back on that.

HOLY COW-- as I am sitting in class here writing this, I cannot help but explain to you what is going on in this class right now. This is a class called Families in Communities- this week we are talking about the family and law, and specifically today... the topic is same sex marriage. Now... picture this- my MALE teacher introduces the topic by saying, "many students at BYU are against same-sex marriage, so today I thought I would bring in a special guest. I brought a lesbian to talk to you today. But not a real lesbian, I am the lesbian. But I'm not really a lesbian. I am just going to act the part today because I feel I know the mind and heart of people in these situations." So here I am sitting in my class, while my teacher pretends he's homosexual, and a class full of Mormons tries to explain to him (her) why we feel the way we do. This is probably the most ridiculous day in college history!! Wow... thats all I can say. Reminds me of a certain sitcom... Prison Mike anyone???

By the way...

Alison brought to my attention that I missed a blog here... so for those of you who don't know yet- I'm pregnant!!!!!!! We are so excited! We thought about keeping it on the DL for the first few months, but lets face it- we are way to excited and can't keep our mouths shut. We both graduate in April and are moving to Washington then where- after a few months our beautiful baby would be born (don't mean to sound cocky- but lets face it- boy or girl.... its gonna be one GOOD LOOKIN baby!). We are thinking the due date will be early July- but I guess we will see once we get in to a doctor. So far I am feeling great other than a few minor mood swings- ok- RETCHED mood swings. I'm working on not being a crazy woman on a rampage though- Charles is being patient... he's great! So there is the main thing from our life lately- many of you probably knew, but for the few who didn't- there we go. We have gone public!

Thanks for a Great 22nd

Today has been a great day to end a great week! Charles started my birthday celebrations a little early this week by kidnapping me and taking me up to the Anniversary Inn in Salt Lake for the night on Wednesday. We stayed in the Phantom of the Opera room... classic! We had a lot of fun and it was great to get away for a night. Saturday he took me out to eat at Outback, were... the steak was delicious, but the real treat, I must admit- was the BlueBell Icecream for dessert. For those of you who have never experienced the greatness that is Blue Bell... bless your soul. Charles's comment while I got excited was "following in your mom's footsteps, eating Blue Bell while pregnant." I wouldn't have it any other way!! Look out Texas- We have a whole week there! I hope all the stores are stocked! After dinner we went to a Comedy Show at Wiseguys. It was a lot of fun. We tripled with Adam and Tessa, and Andria and Randy. We had a good time with all of them.
This morning I got woken up to "Happy Birthday" and breakfast in bed! Charles got up and made me crepes- yum!! Then he finally let me open my birthday presents. What a fun birthday! Thanks to Mom and Dad for the cute heart earrings! I love them and since they are the only earrings that I own now that won't irritate my ears- they will get lots of wear! Great choice! Thanks to Mom and Dad Himmer for the cute socks, awesome aprons, and baby name book! I'm sure we are going to need to go through that in the coming months. My wonderful husband topped it off with a "gift card" for a date night of shopping for me and baby- and 2 pressure cookers! I have been really wanting some because I hear they are great- now I just have to figure out how to use them.
Thanks to everyone who called, texted, emailed, or even blogged (Thanks Emily!!) to tell me happy birthday! It is always great to have friends and family who love you!! Thanks again to everyone who made this birthday so great!! I LOVE YOU ALL!!

mmm... Blue Bell homemade icecream, what a perfect way to sayyyy...
Have yourself a bluebell country day.... :)

For those of you who know me well... you know a baby name will not
be an easy choice- this will DEFINITELY come in handy! and... sorry about the weird face

The birthday ensemble: earrings, apron, book, pressure cooker, apron, and socks!

Cute earrings from Mom and Dad... again- why do I make weird faces??

Our Last Game... :(

So this week we attended our last ever BYU football game as students. What a sad day, we decided the football games would be one of the things we were definitely going to miss about college. There is just something about having a sold out crowd all wearing blue cheering their guts out over some big boys takin' each other out. It has been a lot of fun to watch them, especially as they get better and better. Anyway- in honor of the event, I took a few pictures to post our memory.

Fall...

I think this is the first year that I have ever realized how GORGEOUS fall can be. I don't know if this year is prettier than most or if I am just extremely unobservant. Either way- it has been really pretty. We have been really busy, but I thought I would just put up a couple of pictures from the last couple of weeks. Just a couple of us and of the pretty trees!!

We are the CHAMPIONS!!

This semester I have been playing on an intramural volleyball team and Charles and I are on a co-ed bball team. Today was eventful on both sides!! This morning our volleyball team went up to defend our undefeated record for the Championship. After 2 hard fought games.... we pulled it off. It was so fun, I felt kind of lame at how excited I was for the game this morning. For volleyball, we play best of 3. The first two games are to 25, win by two, or a cap at 30 for the win. The third game, if necessary is to 15. Since we were undefeated, and the other team already had a loss, we had the cushion that if we lost the first match, we could still have another go at them. We won the first game by a few points at 25. Game 2 was a battle. Charles said it was like watching Space Jams. The other team was pretty tall... we had ties at every point from about 17 to 30. We pulled out the win after a few sweet blocks at 30-29 and won the championship. Woohoo! It was so fun! Here is a pic of our team in our championship shirts.

Right after our vball victory... we had a match up to defend our coed basketball undefeated record in a regular season game. It was the first time we have had a challenge so far in the season. We held a lead through the first half, and the second half they started creeping back. We only had 3 girls- which you have to have 3 girls on the court, so we had no subs, and I was already really tired from the intense vball game. They took about a 5 point lead with only a few minutes left. We stayed with them fighting back, and it came down to the wire with 11 seconds left, we are down by three, and adam got fouled at the 3 pt line. He sunk all 3 ft's and they got the ball with 11 seconds- tied ball game folks. We got a foul called on the other end, and in the bonus- sent them to the line with 2.9 seconds left- still tied. She missed both free throws... we called a time out, and executed a play, but didn't get a shot off. And then found out... THEY DON'T DO OVERTIME!! Lame... anyway- still counts as a win! What a blast...

A little something to SPICE things up

Well it seems like lately with all the work and school... that nothing new ever happens in our lives, hence the weeks without blogging. Trust me... we would bore you to death if we told you what we did all day- we are practically boring ourselves to death these days. Anyway... there have been a few things to break up the monotony lately that we have some funny pictures to document. First of all we have the classic... Heather is starved for attention picture. This was taken after a LONG day at school. Charles has been busy helping with 3 or 4 start up companies lately, so most of the nights he spends working on those. On this particular night, Charles got a phone call from one of the guys he is working with and they were brainstorming. After about 30 minutes I had had enough. I started by shamelessly moonwalking across the kitchen floor while he talked, hoping to get a laugh... nothing. After a few more dance moves, I realized I was going to have to work a little harder to break him this time. And this picture is the result. Not only did I get him to laugh... he even wanted to take a picture. That was just the attention I needed to head back to my marketing book satisfied:)

The next ones are not quite so fun to remember... This incident inspired the "spice" in the title of this blog. One sunny Sunday afternoon, I decided to make one of our favorite things... home made salsa. Little did I know of the events that would follow. I was getting over a cold at the time, and had a bit of a runny nose. So after chopping the onion, and jalepeno, I had to take a break to blow the old shnozz. Well, I quickly washed my hands... emphasis on quickly... and went to blow my nose. Mere seconds later it hit me. My hand washing had not been sufficient to remove the excess jalepeno oils from my hands and sheer panic struck in. Lucky for Kyle he was here and was able to witness the whole event along with Charles. I ran back into the kitchen and started acting on my ideas...

First... Ice- it helps in the instant to numb the pain... but just as drinking water doesn't help when you eat something spicy... ice doesn't cool the burning oil of a jalepeno in your nose.

Second... Charles suggests, milk helps when you drink it... try that. So out of desperation, comes picture #2... yes, that is me trying to pour a cup of milk up my nose. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Don't be fooled by the smile on my face. The situation was humorous for about 2 minutes... and then I made Charles put the camera away and get both of our mothers on the phone until we had this crisis handled. It ended with olive oil and q-tips. If anyone ever has such a problem again... learn from our new found knowledge. Oil extracts oil... water intensifies it!

Recent Events...

Well, there hasn't been too much going on with us other than school and work. Charles has been really busy working on a few different websites and has had a couple of his classmates coming to him with business ideas, so he is staying plenty busy with those. My classes are proving to be very high maintenance, so that is keeping me nice and busy. Charles realized last week how much happier I am when we go home at the end of the day. Being at school for 12 hours every day has a tendency to stress me out a tiny bit... haha! Anyway, our weekend brought a little relief to our crazy lives. Saturday morning we went and volunteered at the cannery with our ward. They were canning peaches. We got put on the conveyor belt were we were to pick out the bad peaches before they washed and cut them all. So for 2 1/2 hours we watched this line of peaches go by, looking for mushy ones. Charles sang "Millions of peaches... peaches for free!" over and over again asking, "I wonder if the people who wrote the song were volunteering at the cannery too??" hmmmm.... I wonder.... I was focusing on not throwing up, haha! I would have never thought I could get motion sick at the cannery... but anything is possible!
Saturday night we went to one of the dollar theaters here to watch the BYU vs. Tulsa football game. They just renovated the theater, so they were showing the football game for free as their grand re-opening. It was pretty cool, it felt like we were at the game kind of. Everyone crammed into a theater singing the Cougar fight song after every touch down. Unfortunately... the outcome of the game wasn't so exciting. It was fun though, we are excited for the homecoming game this weekend! BRING IT ON AIR FORCE!!
NOW... for the highlight of the week: last night Charles got us tickets to see High School Musical at one of the community theaters in Orem. I kinda liked the movie... ok, I loved it! So since he is such a good sport, he surprised me with tickets to go see it. It was a lot of fun! It is a totally cheesy show, with totally cheesy music and acting... but I LOVE IT! haha- Charles started groovin to the music last night too, so I know he liked it, he won't admit it to anyone else, but he did. About half way through he was like.. this is fun! Then leaned over and told me, "Don't tell anyone...." So shhh... don't tell him I told you, haha!
Anyway, that is pretty much the excitement for the past week. Kyle is staying with us this weekend for a few days I think. Alissa is going to be gone, and he gets lonely when she leaves, so he is going to come play!! Mom and Dad Himmer are coming down this week too. They are only staying with us Friday night, and then going to the football game with us on saturday, but we are excited to spend some time with them too. So... SLUMBER PARTY at our house this weekend!! Everyone is invited! IT will be fun! It will be a nice break after a long week! Anyway... thats about it for us! We will keep you posted!

Seattle at it's finest...

So, I learned last week what a unique city Seattle is. It was pretty entertaining the day we spent there. Here are the promised pictures to document.

The things dogs will do for money...

Charles riding the bike at the Science center- check out that balance!

At the Mariners game

Sam likes to make faces at me... his favorite is to cross his eyes and stare at me, it gets me every time!!

Sorry its sideways... but this was hilarious- take special note of the "rally" hat

School's back...

Well... here we go again, one more year... We started school yesterday. Charles and I are both taking 18 credits and working 20 hours this semester. So its gonna be a busy one! A lot of my classes ended up being night classes, so I have class until 8 or 9 3 days a week... so I am awfully excited about that! Yesterday I had class until about 645, we got out early. I was hoping to get home in time to go to Charles' 630 softball game, but I was a little bit too late. So as I was walking home, I was trying to decide what to make for dinner so I could have it ready when he got home from his game. Well.... little did I know that my little Chef Boyardee had whipped something up before he left. He made a chicken casserole! I was very impressed! AND- he did the laundry. I don't know, but I think I'm gonna like this night class thing :) He's Great!! Anyway- I have pictures from our trip to Seattle, but I haven't uploaded them yet, so I'll do that soon. It was fun though. I saw JELLYFISH!! REAL jellyfish. It scared the crap out of me actually. Charles took me kayaking for the first time... and we were in the ocean... WEIRD!! Anyway, after about five minutes Charles looked at me and realized I had stopped dead in my tracks and had a terrified look on my face, he asked what was wrong. "Charles, there is a Jellyfish RIGHT by my paddle!!!" He laughed and told me it was ok. "What am I supposed to do???" I was panicking at this point... He reminded me that I was in a kayak and the jellyfish couldn't do anything. This happened about 5 more times before we turned around and headed back in. I realize now that I was being quite ridiculous... but man- that was weird!! Anyone who knows me- knows how I spaz out in water... the ocean was a new experience for me! Haha... Anyway- I'll upload pictures and tell more about our trip then. For now... back to school!

Ed Week

I figured I better post something before I start getting comments telling me to update. But... not too much has been going on. Last weekend we went to see Beauty and the Beast at a theater in Sandy. It was really good, Charles surprised me and I loved it! Since then, the Himmer clan has arrived and we have been having a lot of fun with them. we have been going to education week ehre at BYU. For those of you who don't know about Ed Week, its basically a week of classes on anything you can imagine. Religious, educational, self-help.. you name it, and there is probably a class about it! It has been a lot of fun and we are learning a lot. After the week is over, we will head to Washington for some much needed vacation! I'm sure I'll have pictures to show then... but that's about it for now!

Half Marathon

As a lot of you know, yesterday was our big half marathon. There is not much to say about it other than... WE DID IT! Charles and Kyle both had very "respectable" times. haha... It was a fun little challenge, but boy are we feeling it today! I feel like a 90 year old women walking around all hunch backed trying to shuffle myself around. Anyone have a wheel chair they would like to donate?? Just kidding... its not so bad... Alissa got a few pictures, unfortunately... I was running so fast past the finish line, the camera couldn't capture my speed. It did get the two slow pokes as they crossed... :)

Go BEES!!!

Kent and Melanie invited us to go with their family to a Salt Lake Bees game last night. They are the AAA Baseball team up there. It was a lot of fun!! Not the most eventful baseball game I have ever been to, but it was a lot of fun to get out and do something different! We went up with Kyle and Alissa and met up with lots of family at the game. They were celebrating Lacey’s 5th birthday!! Happy Birthday Lacey!!

Bridal Veil Falls

Well... I realize it has been about a month since I last posted a blog. My apologies to everyone who has been harassing us about it ;) We have been pretty busy with work and school lately, but we have managed to do a few picture worthy activities in the mean time. Last Saturday we went on a little hike with Charles' cousin Steven and his girlfriend Allison. We LOVE hanging out with these two. Allison is such a fun girl and has the most contagious laugh I have ever heard... so we have a lot of fun with them. Anyway, we went for a little bit of a hike up to the waterfalls which was kind of funny. We hiked up this pretty steep part of the mountain all of us down on all fours so we wouldn't fall on the loose gravel. About half way up, Charles said... Oh yeah- I remember now, there is a nice little switchback trail a little bit to our left! Nice thing to know as you are trying not to fall down a mountain... Anyway- when we got to the top of our rock climbing adventure, sure enough there was a nice little trail for us to take down. It was pretty fun, just a short little hike, but we had a lot of fun having another couple to hang out with. It doesn't hurt that Allison thinks Charles is hilarious.... he HATES that! Anyway, here are a few pictures from the adventure.

This is the trail we came up instead of the easy one Charles remembered half way up :)

Oh Deer!

Last night as I was cooking dinner, I saw out of the corner of my eye what looked like a dog coming up to our window. I looked up to see a deer staring me down. It kind of freaked me out at first, but then I went for my camera. I didn't get it in time to get a close up of it in the window, but I ran outside and there were 2 in our backyard. It was pretty crazy!! We live just right by BYU in the middle of Provo, so it was kind of crazy!! You can't see him too well from the pictures, they wouldn't let me get too close, but I got a few quick snaps before they took off down the street.
