Yesterday was my big debut.
Every year the Himmer family, along with a few friends, puts on a Christmas concert for a group of nursing homes in Gig Harbor. The homes are called Family First. It is a group of 5 homes, with about 6 residents I believe. They are normal houses that have been converted to fit all the needs of the residents, and provide 24 hour care for them in a more intimate, personal setting than your typical nursing home. The owner, Chris Thompson, and his wife, Julie (I think), are really great people. I hadn't ever met them before, but they have been working on this business for 10 years, and really care about what they are doing for these families. It was really cool to see them all come together for a little holiday party. Chris goes to every doctors appt with each resident, and stays very involved in their lives and what he can do to help. What a great way to find a need that you can fill to make life better for people in your community. Anyway, for a few years now, the Himmers have been playing music at this annual Christmas party, and yesterday was my first time to participate. It was a lot of fun to see those people's faces light up and shake their jingle bells along with the music.
The biggest hit of the night was Sam (almost 7), singing "Christmas Shoes" The video there is a little cheesy, but it is such a sweet song. He even got an encore, and performed again at the end of the night. Way to go Sammy!
Sam's only competition may have been Abigail, she stole the show. She was making friends everywhere she went. We were gone from 8:30 am, when we left for church, until about 6:30 pm when we got home from it all. Abigail did not fuss ONE SINGLE TIME the whole day. She was perfect. What a blessing this sweet little girl is :)

What a great tradition! It looks like you married into an amazing and caring family!
I'd have to agree that Sam was a big hit. How many people get an encore on their first performance.
I concur that Abigail was a main attraction, people I didn't even know came up to me to say what a cute granddaughter I had.
But not to be overlooked is the performance of MY Daughter-In-Law, Heather Himmer. What a precious voice. She sang beautifully and the number she did with Charles was a sheer delight to behold.
We're lucky to have you girl!
Love
Abigail's grandfather
